What happens when you have “big and dramatic art” taste but don’t have a “big and dramatic art” budget? According to one TikToker, it’s no big deal. Just grab your favorite tapestry and some crown molding, and let’s get to work.

Grace (@graceful_design) showed her followers how she created a massive piece of framed art for her wall to cover her new apartment’s utility box in a September video that has since gone viral. To do so, she picked up a lightweight tapestry and four pieces of crown molding. She then mitered the corners of her crown molding to 45-degree angles to put together a frame.

She spritzed the frame with gold spray paint and attached the tapestry straight to the back of the frame, and then it was time to hang.

“This had to be one of the best low-cost solutions I’ve seen,” one commenter wrote. “It came out so well and looks fabulous in your apartment.”

The best part about this DIY — besides the fact that it’s gorgeous and looks way more expensive than it is — is that the tapestry and frame are both so lightweight that it’s still really simple to access the utility box.

You could also make this DIY project with existing frames you find at the thrift store. You could even chop up a tapestry or decorative bed sheet and put it into several frames to make an interesting gallery wall.

So if you’re tired of staring at that ugly utility box on your wall or just want to fill a blank space with a piece of big and dramatic art, you can do so without breaking the bank. The hardest part may be cutting those 45-degree angles, but the people at the hardware store can do that for you.
