Colorful bedroom featuring a blue bed with decorative pillows, a turquoise lamp, and vibrant wall art.

As anyone with a small bedroom can tell you, trying to fit every piece of furniture in a full bedroom set (plus accessories!) can feel like an impossible puzzle to solve. You’re choosing to sacrifice elements like nightstands or hampers to fit a queen-size bed or drawers into an otherwise cramped bedroom. But that shouldn’t mean you sacrifice all style for a better layout.

If that’s the case, it may be time to add a rug into the equation. But not on the floor — on the wall, instead!

In a recent Instagram post, a creative mind behind a stylish rug brand experimented in her own bedroom at home. She used one of her creations as a headboard, and the result is actually so chic.

“This DIY turned out way better than I expected,” Madeline Ronzoni from @happy.rugs wrote in a recent Instagram caption. “Be honest, do you love it or hate it??”

“Oh wow how beautiful,” one person commented on Madeline’s post. Another said, “That’s a great idea if you don’t have/want a headboard.”

Why Rugs as Headboards Are Perfect for Small Bedrooms

But you don’t have to go sculptural to sell the look. A standard rectangular rug like this one from IKEA would also look super cool hung on the wall behind your bed. And that flatwoven texture would give it a tapestry look.

Rugs as headboards just make sense. They’re cozy on the feet, so of course they’d be cozy near your head, too! Your boring bedroom will instantly have more pizzazz, and if you have a rug you love already then this DIY will cost you nothing. Give it a try, and you might be anti “traditional” headboard from here on out!
