A Food Artist’s NYC Home Is Incredibly Colorful Despite All-White Walls
Food artist and baking enthusiast Lili Song has a passion for design and storytelling, and the 900-square-foot New York City apartment she shares with her boyfriend is proof. “Together, we’ve embarked on a journey of collecting vintage designer pieces since 2020, scouring auctions globally, and exploring local Facebook Marketplace treasures,” Lili explains.

“Every item in our apartment has a story to tell, a narrative of its journey before becoming a part of our lives,” Lili continues. “This eclectic mix is a reflection of our personalities and interests, creating a space that is both personal and intriguing. Despite the limited space in our apartment, our collection continues to grow, with many pieces currently in storage waiting for their moment to shine.”
Lili says they aren’t trying to stick to any one specific style. They are just picking out pieces that they love and that work together. “This approach has resulted in a home that is consistently inconsistent, filled with items we love and enjoy. It’s a playful, artistic environment that evolves with our ongoing discoveries and acquisitions,” Lili writes.
Although Lili reports that they do have a fondness for specific types of pieces like lamps and chairs. Among their most treasured pieces are the Broadway chair by Gaetano Pesce, the Hat Trick chair by Frank Gehry, and the Gaudi chair by Vico Magistretti. “Most of our collection is vintage or secondhand — each piece bringing a unique history and character into our home. We’ve almost never purchased new, preferring the charm and stories that come with items from different eras and places.”
