Our home is a place where we like to feel at ease with everything that surrounds us. I always like to keep it white and with objects or textiles add colour to the space and brighten it up. Light is something extremely important and I always search to create an interior that is bright during the day and warm during the night.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

My Style: I like mixing old and new. I search for old furniture and upholster them with new fabric. In Portugal, you can find many auctions that sell beautiful antiques; I am always looking for objects that give color to the space. Carpets are very important, too! I love adding color to the floor. My style is keeping it minimal but with comfort and color. Plants and flowers always make me feel happy when at home. Unique lamps and apliques [wall sconces] also are things that I search for when creating a space, which give a particular warmth in the night or evening.

Inspiration: I love Moroccan textiles and carpets with a mix of Portuguese style. A white space can brighten up with whatever goes on the walls or on the floor.

Favorite Element: My Portuguese apliques [wall sconces] that I have had custom made in colors that I chose. They are so delicate and beautiful and add a distinctive style in a more modern apartment.

Biggest Challenge: Our bedroom is a very big room and it didn’t feel cozy at the beginning, so we added a sofa to it. It was nice to also have a place in our bedroom where you could lie that is not the bed.

Biggest Indulgence: The gym mats. They were expensive and we found them online. As we have a small son, we thought they would be great for just playing around in the living room instead of having a coffee table in the middle. These gym mats open up the space and invite you to lay on or play more on the floor… or sit in front of the fireplace in winter.

Best Advice: Keep true to your own style; do not be afraid to mix colors and patterns. Doing up a space slowly without thinking it has to be perfect from the beginning, because a space and your home should grow slowly as life does and everything that you might like at the beginning will always change with time. So let your interior grow on you.
