Minimal & Pastel Perfection in a Lovely Live/Work Loft
Name: Courtney Molyneaux and Christopher Amat
Location: Calgary, AB
Size: 800 square feet
Years lived in: 1.5 years, renting
“We spend 90% of our time here, together, so it was important that we were both happy and felt like this was a space we could spend, and would enjoy spending, a lot of time in,” shares interior designer and stylist Courtney Molyneaux. She moved into this 800 square foot live/work loft about three months ago, though her partner Christopher Amat, a professional photographer, had been living in the space for about a year. And because of her interior design background, Christopher let Courtney take charge of the decor when she moved in. The result, however, is a blend of both of their aesthetics, as well as a lovely background for their professional creations.
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Minimal, colourful, playful.
What is your favorite room and why? My favourite room is probably our kitchen/living room area. We just redid one of the walls in the kitchen that faces into our living room and I smile every time I look at it. The colours we incorporated and the objects we decided on work so well together. It’s nice to have that as such a big feature in our home.
If you could magically change something about your home, what would it be? An infinite amount of storage space. Lofts do not come with a lot of that.
Any advice for creating a home you love? Creating a home you love is the definition of work in progress. It takes time. Finding pieces you genuinely love and know you will hold onto for a long time is not easy, but when you do find them, it is so worth it.
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? The last thing we bought was a pink Muuto dot to hang our dog leash on, and some white frames to hang a print series above our stairs that we photographed together.
Thanks, Courtney!
