Cozy living room with a fireplace, piano, plants, and a large pendant light, featuring a brown sofa and a coffee table.

Are you like a moth to a flame when someone describes a home as “whimsical”? It’s hard not to love the aesthetic — and so you’ll understand why a new curtain styling hack is blowing up on Instagram right now.

Lace curtains on their own are gauzy and gorgeous, but when you string them onto a curved shower curtain rod, the look becomes all the more fantastical.

“Concept: using a curved shower rod to hang my living room curtains on,” Karina (@k.rad_) wrote in a recent Instagram video, adding in the caption, “If you’re my apartment leasing company, don’t look.”

Karina installed a curved chrome shower curtain rod above her living room windows, which gives the curtains much more body, shape, and drama than a regular curtain rod. And people in the comments are loving it.

“Wait, this is perfect for plants!!” one person wrote. You could easily tuck a few plant stands behind the curtains, which would allow them to get plenty of sunlight while keeping your space private and shaded. Another person wrote that this is the perfect solution for cats who love to sleep in windowsills, too.

“I love!! And this would eattt in a bay window,” someone else wrote. Dreamy!

All You Need Is an Amazon Find to Re-Create the Look

You can grab a curved shower curtain rod for under $30 on Amazon. Just measure your window and choose the rod that will best fit the space. This one from Chrsouly on Amazon comes in chrome, black, brass, and antique bronze. Karina said she used nails to install her curtain rod, but it’s recommended that you drill in screws to make sure it doesn’t go anywhere.

Then, just add a set of lacy curtains from the thrift store (or grab the set from Wayfair below) and you’re on your way to having the most ethereal living room ever. You can also hang suncatchers, wind chimes, and other bobbles from this style of rod without worrying about them crashing into the window when a gust of wind comes through the screen.

Just wait for a summer breeze to kick in, and you’ll vow to never go back to regular old curtain rods again.
