I write about house tours (but I love a good kitchen and kids' room article). My work can be found across AT Media, including The Kitchn and Cubby. I’ve been writing about home-related topics for nearly five years and love seeing how people make their homes unique.

Four years ago Lizzy Bentley, the CEO and founder of CITY Boots, wanted to buy a home but wasn’t overly concerned about it. That feeling of peace led her to a grocery store, which had a two-bedroom house nearby with minimal information or pictures (except for a description that said, “What a view,” Lizzy remembers).

Maybe it was the lack of information or the promise of great scenery, but Lizzy was intrigued and asked her real estate agent to meet her there. “The second we walked in the door, I told her to put in an offer,” Lizzy explains. “It’s like the house was made for me! We had an offer on the house within 20 minutes of it going on the market.”

The entire process was an example of pure fate. Lizzy’s application got picked up immediately, as her best friend had just started dating the seller’s son. She had even met him a few weeks prior at a party! Another bonus? The previous owners had renovated the 1942 house, and she loved everything about their changes. So, she and Birdie, a Toy Australian Shepherd, moved in and filled the home with special objects, such as her vast boot collection and vintage jewelry.

“I love this home because of its size and the natural light,” Lizzy explains. “It is small enough to manage with my busy travel schedule, and the greenspace behind the house makes it feel like I’m in the country even though I live right next to a college. I always say it’s my mullet house: Party in the front, peace in the back.”
