This “Boy Apartment” in LA Is Small but Seriously Chic
It took months for Elijah Banks, Los Angeles–based content creator, to find this gem of an apartment, a 800-square-foot rental studio with tall ceilings and strong industrial loft vibes.

While Elijah might not have invented the term “boy apartment,” the videos of his colorful home on TikTok and Instagram certainly perfectly embody the movement. Elijah has successfully infused the formerly blank space with an absolute explosion of dopamine decor vibes. In his words, he calls his home’s style “relaxing and earthy boy apartment.”
The show-stealer of the apartment is the giant lime green shag rug that anchors the living room and grounds the entire space. He boldly paired the green rug with another oversized furniture piece: a bright orange modular sectional. He found both pieces on Wayfair.
Although some of the larger pieces in the home have been found at places like Wayfair, he’s also thrifted a lot of his furnishings.
“I would say my biggest challenge was finding pieces that fit and represented me perfectly,” Elijah writes. “Sometimes you can’t just go out and buy them — those are the type of pieces you have to wait for.”
Sometimes you even have to make your own things to find the right pieces to represent yourself. The brown paper bag vases and the jacket planters are Elijah’s own creations. “This is really a work and live space — I run a 3D printing business out of it, and it acts as a content studio for my TikTok pages,” he describes.
But while his 3D creations are very cool, they’re not Elijah’s proudest DIY project in the space. “I did a DIY that I call the beanstalk where I bought fake grass and bush material and glued it to a concrete pillar to give the apartment more earthy feels.”
And although his bedroom loft area wasn’t quite ready for its close-up at the time of the Apartment Therapy house tour photo shoot, he’s since shared the smallest sneak peek of the space on his socials.

** An earlier version of this tour referred to Elijah’s home as 400 square feet. That is incorrect. The size of his apartment is closer to 800 square feet.
