Name: Mandi Smethells
Location: St. Paul, Minnesota

Our home is a 1920s bungalow in the Como Park neighborhood of St. Paul, Minnesota. It is a stretch to say it is 1400 square feet (it has a half story with low ceilings, and a finished basement.) My husband and I purchased it early last summer and share it with our 2 and a half year old daughter Madeline, our two cats, and our dog.

We were definitely looking for a home with character, and St. Paul is not short on them. We fell in the love with the built-ins and moldings of our home, but not the small size. We quickly refinished the basement within a few months of moving in so that we could have a more casual family “den” with our TV and office space.

I work for a modern home furnishings company as a design associate, and have in the last year started mixing in modern with a lot of antique furniture and pottery that I had collected over the years. I love the mix of modern/antique and high/low.

I am practically obsessed with thrifting, but don’t mind splurging on good design and quality.

Thanks, Mandi!
