While minimalism has had its moment during the last few years, it’s clear that the pendulum is starting to swing toward maximalism—or, at least, a happy medium is becoming more and more common in our House Tours. If you’re tired of muted colors and simple aesthetics and want to embrace bold patterns, vibrant hues, and plenty of texture, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve been gravitating towards maximalist rugs lately, and decided to round up a few favorites that have caught our eye lately. Enjoy this treat for the eyes, and remember that no space is too small for a healthy dose of personality.

Neffie Woven Rug

The colors in this wool rug aren’t as saturated as they could be, but the mix of colors plus the geometric motifs make it a maximalist dream. It’s on the high end for Urban Outfitters, but the eclectic-meets-boho vibes feel totally fun and unique.

Margo Selby Stripe Block Rug

This color-blocked rug feels like something you’d find at MoMA, but it’s actually a budget-friendly buy from none other than West Elm. Created by textile designer Margo Selby, this 100 percent cotton rug expertly mixes warm and cool tones for a contemporary feel that commands attention.

Aziza Printed Chenille Rug

Sunrise colors blend together to create a cozy, laid-back vibe in this super soft chenille rug. Inspired by vintage designs, its style is undeniably boho, which is notable because boho designs aren’t typically thought of as maximalist. Rather than stick with faded colors, we love that this rug goes bold and bright while still maintaining that boho style.

Brilliant Poppies Rug

We could honestly stare at those larger-than-life flowers for hours. This hand-tufted wool rug has an abstract floral pattern that’s hard to look away from, and the bright colors only add to the effect. Anthro is (unsurprisingly) full of maximalist floral rugs, including this wildflower-patterned option and dramatic bouquet-inspired design.

Ivette Southwestern Area Rug

You don’t necessarily need a mix of colors to create maximum impact—sometimes just one oversaturated hue is enough. This Southwest-inspired rug packs a punch thanks to the deep red color that can work with eclectic, boho, and even traditional styles. (Plus, it’s stain- and fade-resistant!)
