Name: Meghan
Location: Charleston, South Carolina

This is the first place that we’ve lived that has truly felt like “home.” When we first moved in, we vowed to shape this space as a retreat from the outside world. We have filled every corner with things that we love; every piece has a story or connection outside of itself. We’ve painted, changed fixtures, added hardware, put down flooring…anything and everything (within reason for a rental) to shape it to our aesthetics.

Our favorite room is the bedroom. When we first saw the apartment it was the bedroom that sold us! It is the biggest room and gets the most sunlight. It quadruples in purpose as a bedroom, work station, library, and violin practice area (and occasionally an indoor exercise room…but only occasionally). Most of our plants go in here as well since it gets the best light. We are most proud of the kitchen – if you remember from our entry in the Big Reveal contest, it was a disaster when we moved in! Now it is a lighter and brighter space that we love to use.

Our home is a mishmash of family pieces, thrift market finds, and lots and lots of books. We don’t know what to call our style…something like budget friendly meets cozy library meets sentimental. The books in the living area are stacked against the wall because our Ivar units toppled over. Since we are moving soon, we decided to wait until we are in our new place to figure out another storage solution. We hate not being able to access all of the books – definitely only a short term fix!

This has been the perfect apartment, and we are very sad to move…probably even in denial! It was not only a great deal rent wise, but located only two blocks from our two places of work. We have loved living here, but are embracing the change and looking forward to making a new space our home!

Thanks, Meghan!
