Name: Melissa
Location: Washington, D.C.

After years of living with roommates and not feeling enough ownership of my space, I decided that this was going to be the home where I finally put nails in the wall. My boyfriend Andrew and I have been renting a 645 square foot apartment in a former embassy building in the Kalorama/Adams Morgan neighborhood in DC.

Embracing the character of the building with the modern upgrades to the unit, we’ve pulled pieces together with budget and space maximization as top priorities.

This meant some DIY (building our desk to fit a particular nook), lots of HomeGoods and Target runs, and some statement pieces (our amazing paprika couch) to bring energy to our otherwise neutral space.

The thing I love the most about our apartment is that it has grown with us. We didn’t have all the perfect pieces on day one — nor could we have afforded to. But little by little, we’ve created a space that reflects both our personalities.

Thanks, Melissa !
