Name: Meredith
Location: Upper West Side, NYC

After a traumatic ending to an 8 year relationship I was looking for a fresh start in the city to be closer to work and friends. Downsizing from a three bedroom house in the ‘burbs to NYC on my solo rental budget was somewhat daunting but oddly exciting.

I set out to find the perfect space with my best friend and broker in tow. My main requirements were natural light, space, and a pet-friendly building with enough room for both me and my 35lb rescue Samantha. After what seemed like hours touring depressing studios on the LES and East Village (my preferred neighborhoods at the time) my broker suggested we take a trip to the Upper West where I would get more bang for the buck.

When we flung open the door of this 5th floor walk-up my first thought was “THIS IS NOT DEPRESSING”! Far from it actually. The space was a blank canvas, high loft-like ceilings, three almost floor to ceiling windows and loads of pre-war charm! It reminded me of a Parisian art gallery just waiting to be filled with soul. This apartment has become my sanctuary. I feel more at ease in these 500 square feet than I ever did in my previous home. I’m surrounded by things I adore, each with their own story and new memories attached to them.
