Mindy Kaling’s Teal Front Door Is the Star of Her Entryway
Mindy Kaling, the queen of color, just inadvertently inspired her followers to rethink the paint hue of their front door. Although she was showing off the gorgeous “Elle Woods” pink sequin dress she wore to a SAG Q&A session recently, Kaling also gave followers a peek inside her home’s front entryway where her teal front door steals the show.
Having seen bits and pieces of Kaling’s Los Angeles home while she’s been WFH, it’s no surprise she went with a deep robin’s egg blue for her front door. Versions of that same blue are sprinkled throughout her house from her bathroom wallpaper, to the rug in her family room, and to the tile used in the mantle of her living room fireplace.
Kaling told Architectural Digest in 2017 that her home is “a little Wes Anderson.” She said, “It’s how layered it looks — he’s very conscious and he’s very generous with the colors in his palette.”
If you’ve been inspired to go blue with your front door as Kaling has, there are a few shades from popular paint brands you may want to check out:
Depending on the lighting and surroundings, Farrow and Ball’s Blue Ground can can come across as super light aqua, as shown above, or lean more toward a bold powder blue.
Seaside Resort from Benjamin Moore is another similar shade to Kaling’s door. It’s a true blue-green that reads as a muted robin’s egg blue.
Or, go even darker with Lakeshore from Sherwin-Williams. This color has a hint of gray to it and is a bit more muted than the other two options.
Why play it safe when you could pull a Kaling and dive in head first into the world of color?
