This amazing apartment renovation in Barcelona’s “El Born” neighborhood is full of the soul of its interior designer inhabitant, Esther Lopez Aguilar, the founder of loag studio. Esther shares the minimal home with her partner Dani and daughter Alma.

The renovation of this apartment was also an opportunity for Esther to practice sustainable design principles. “I embrace the concept of sustainability not just as a temporary trend, but as a lifestyle, a foundation for my own creative ideals, therefore envisioning both being functional and environmentally sound as main requirements in design,” writes Esther on her firm’s website.

She used eco-friendly materials and tried to respect the essence of the apartment’s architecture by leaving the original floors and ceilings. In the apartment, bright and open space welcomes you with a neutral color palette of simple shades; quietness and functionality are palpable throughout the entire apartment.

Taking advantage of resources that already exist is something very important for Esther. That’s how she became part of a project that restores furniture and started to be interested in yoga life and sustainable living, style, where the respect of our planet is the key of a fulfilled life. “Sound of silence,” her new project, tries to create extraordinary experiences through yoga practice and the use of art and creativity.

Even though it is a rental, having the opportunity to customize her home was a great experience for Esther, one which she very much enjoyed. With so much light and original features, this Barcelona apartment charms anyone with its simple beauty and good taste!

Apartment Therapy Survey:

Our Style: Eclectic but simple. Neutral spaces and simple beauty.

Inspiration: My experiences, what I see every day in the streets, traveling. Everything is connected.

Favorite Element: I don’t feel attachment to material elements. The feeling of looking thorough the windows and seeing trees and the sky while lying in bed for me is priceless!

Biggest Challenge: To restore and maintain the old floors! Two people were working only on that project, cleaning and re-installing piece by piece.

What Friends Say: How cozy it is!

Biggest Embarrassment: I’m very critical with myself and I am always regretting my decisions! But If I have to choose one it would be the kitchen’s floor. It’s made of an ecological material, very cold and porous, so when you are barefoot it doesn’t feel warm and when you spill something it always leaves a stain.

Proudest DIY: The coffee table or the chest of drawers in my room. I used to have a project with a friend where we restored old furniture and these two pieces are from that period.

Biggest Indulgence: The “milà” lamp is the only “expensive” thing I have.

Best Advice: Everyone is different so I would have a different advice for every person. Try to hear yourself and analyze what are your priorities, your lifestyle; your house is a reflection of you, so is very important to listen to yourself!

Dream Sources: Rationalism architects and Bauhaus.
