This 513-Square-Foot Apartment Has the Chicest Custom Pottery Barn Sofa I’ve Ever Seen
Lily King is an artist and upcoming interior design graduate with an emphasis in historic preservation from Mississippi State University, and her first project was her one-bedroom rental apartment. She’s shared the space with her cat, Henry, for the past three years and has, over time, made it her own.

Reflecting on when she first moved in, Lily, who shares her design work on Instagram, describes the original space as “all gray and beige, a classic apartment style.” She admits that the home has taken on several design styles and is “ever-evolving,” but the current look is the most representative of her.
“I feel like my space has taken on this lived-in, curated style that is timeless and true to me,” Lily explains. “I tend to gravitate towards certain items and colors and don’t let a certain ‘style type’ or aesthetic influence my decisions. If I like it, it goes! I think that is the key to creating a space that is true to you.”
Lily’s space has that “lived-in” feel because several pieces are thoughtfully sourced from secondhand shops or antique markets. For example, the couch in her living room is originally from Pottery Barn, but she got it from a local store for a “steal” of a price because it was bare and without upholstery.
Because the couch was so cheap, she could have a custom, linen-esque slipcover made with down. Not only does it look super luxurious, but Lily also admits that it’s comfortable as well. Details like this give her home a storied feel.
