Perfect Night In is a series where we ask actors, artists, entrepreneurs, and beyond how they’d spend the ultimate luxury—a blissful evening at home.

Misty Copeland is known for making history as the very first African-American woman to be promoted to principal ballerina in the Instagram page. On top of that, she recently partnered with LG Signature on a new food and wine video series called “Notes From the Cellar” where she shares her passion for the culinary arts.

So when Copeland isn’t dancing and cooking, how does she relax at home when she finally gets to put her feet up? We asked, and she answered:

Set the Scene

Describe your perfect homebody scene in five words: Casual, engaging, elegant, fun, relaxing.

Are you alone or with someone else? I’m with my husband here in our apartment.

What two people, dead or alive, would you let crash your night? Dave Chappelle, I think he’s brilliant, unpredictable, and hilarious. Also, Mariah Carey. I’ve been a huge fan of hers ever since I was 7 years old, having representation as a biracial girl and looking up to someone like her. We’ve become friends and I have so much respect for her, her perseverance, and career.

Now Playing

TV or a movie? In the past week I’ve been watching a new series “Twenties” and I’m obsessed with it. It’s an amazing representation of Black artists in Hollywood.

Silence or music? Music, all the time. No matter what I’m doing, even if I’m going to sleep, I connect with music so much. Whenever I’m at home or cooking or doing something, I have music on. Currently, I’m going through a Billie Eilish phase. I saw her at the Grammys and it opened up my mind, to see young talent expressing themselves so freely.

E-books or the real deal? I do both. I like having them in my hands, but sometimes it doesn’t really work out with my lifestyle when I throw a book into my dance bag, and when I go to open it it’s covered in who knows what—water, nuts, bars. So I do eBooks a lot.

What are you reading? I’m really excited to dive into “Homegoing”.

Board games: yay or nay? Yay!

What’s Cooking

Order in or cook for yourself? Cooking, for sure. I find it really relaxing. In my ideal kitchen, I’d have a countertop that would be lower so I could sit and cook. I love the art of the outlet and having that experience of creating and listening to music.

What are you eating? I love the challenge of opening up the refrigerator and trying to create something out of nothing. What do we have in here—the most random thing—and how can I make a cohesive meal out of it?

What drink are you pouring? I’m definitely a wine drinker. I like sparkling wine like Prosecco, champagne, and cava. I also like a good pinot noir.

What’s for dessert? I have a really good cookie recipe that’s pretty healthy but tastes amazing. It’s oats and bananas—really ripe bananas so they’re sweet—and I add white chocolate to it. You bake it, and that’s it, no eggs involved. It’s simple and so good.

Late-night snack? I keep sunflower seeds in my nightstand. It’s a comforting thing, I grew up eating them. My husband hates it though, there are always shells in our bed.

Take Care

Candles: yay or nay? Yay.

Beauty face masks: yay or nay? Absolutely!

Bubble bath: yay or nay? Yay.

Chores: yay or nay? I would say yay. I’m a Virgo and I clean as I go.

Ideal bedtime? 10 p.m.
