Cristina has interior design in her blood; for her it is a passion and a way of creating good feelings through beautiful visuals. She founded the multi-disciplinary design studio, CIRERA+ ESPINET, with her partner Mariona Espinet, and defines her personal style as breaking the mold. And when Cristina moved to this apartment four years ago, it was her opportunity to design something for her and her family.

When they bought this apartment, it originally had many walls and rooms, but Cristina wanted to create an open plan. So, she changed the distribution and layout, knocking down some walls. The result is an open space that you enter through the kitchen which is, according to Cristina, where everything happens.

Colors, texture, and quality materials are essential to good design. But when you want a big impact Cristina says that layout is the key. And sometimes it’s actually essential, especially when your family unexpectedly grows. When Cristina, her partner Marc, and their daughter came to live here, they were a family of only three. But then life surprised Cristina and twins arrived! The home had to change a little bit with the boys, which fortunately was possible because of Cristina’s smart home layout designs.

Influenced by Japanese and Australian design, this interior designer knows how to take advantage of an apartment and make the best of it.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

My Style: Eclectic. I like to play with different materials: cold and warm, wood and concrete, etc.

Inspiration: Traveling and design blogs.

Favorite Element: The kitchen.

Biggest Challenge: The apartment itself. We had to knock down many walls.

What Friends Say: They are shocked that you enter through the kitchen.

Biggest Embarrassment: I would love to change the sofas and the coffee table, but the kids touch and destroy everything!

Proudest DIY: The living room’s wardrobe color. I took it from a shopping bag and said to the carpenter I wanted that color. I love it!

Biggest Indulgence: The living room windows.

Best Advice: Hire me! Pay attention to layout!

Dream Sources: DiMore, an Italian Designer Studio.
