Instagram Is Obsessed With This $68 Mirror — It’s Actually a Kids’ Toy

Perhaps one of the most important decor elements in making your space feel truly stylish is wall art. Although buying mass-produced prints may feel tempting (I get it!), it’s always worth your investment if you can nab a statement art piece that’s truly unique or original to set your home apart. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a big budget breaker, though; it doesn’t even have to be “art.” Sometimes it’s simply a wooden tray from the thrift store, or a framed page from a beloved book. Or sometimes, it’s a kids’ toy.

When I came across this video from creator and interior stylist Kiva Brent (@kiva.brent) on Instagram, I was instantly in love with this incredibly chic decorative wall mirror. The maximalist find looks like it came from a gallery, or a high-end designer retailer. But I loved it even more once I learned that Kiva scored this funky convex mirror on Amazon — where it was actually marketed as as a sensory toy for toddlers.

Though the Spark & Wow Sensory Wall Mirror is technically meant for toddlers, it looks like it leapt straight off the pages of my Pinterest feed. The unique convex shape — originally designed as a sensory item for young children — actually “gives modern CB2 vibes,” as Brent says in the video captions. The best part about it being a kids’ toy, though, is that the “mirror” is actually scratch- and shatter-proof. Plus, it’s hollow and super-lightweight, which makes it ideal for renters who may have plenty of moves in their future. You could install it with Command strips in order to make it easily removable, too. 

Although Brent didn’t include the link to her mirror in the post, I found this piece on Amazon that seems pretty close. The piece is about 19” (both wide and tall) and just $67.99 (a pretty good price for its size). “Great item, large size and clear surface, lightweight and easy to mount,” says one happy customer in a review. “Seems sturdy.”

If you love the look but want even more drama, you could also try stacking several smaller convex mirrors to create one large display. Creator Cennedy Elexis (@cennedyelexis) showed off her take on the trend in another Instagram video, where she hung nine smaller mirrors together to create one large square. “I’m literally eyeing these right now for our new place,” one commenter writes. 

In the comments, Elexis confirms that she too sourced these fun little mirrors on Amazon. I found this similar set of nine sensory mirrors for $49.99, and they have stellar reviews. “I really love these, they’re so fun to me!” one reviewer writes. “I bought them to use as the entryway mirror in lieu of the typical round mirror. They were easy to put up using a leveler, and I expect them to stay up till I take them down.” 

Obviously these aren’t the most functional options if you’re needing something to check out your outfit every day, but these mirrors do make for great (and affordable!) maximalist decor that also bounces tons of dazzling light around your home. I love when a household item becomes something that causes anyone walking into your space to do a true double take.
