A Scandi Design Inspired Keyboard That’s Music to Your Eyes and Ears

The gulf in sound and aesthetics between an electric keyboard and a grand (or even upright) piano can seem wide and insurmountable to many a piano enthusiast. This new collaboration between Roland and Karimoku offers up not only an upgrade in keyboard technology, but a sleek new look minimalist look.

The Roland Kiyola electric piano is available stateside for the first time at the MoMA Design store. While not cheap, it is certainly more affordable than a regular piano and comes with features that take it beyond the standard electric keyboard. The Progressive Hammer Action “helps recreate the full tone and response of an acoustic piano by producing all the complex interactions that take place during the creation of audible sound.”

Each electric piano is handcrafted and made of oak wood, with the different grain patterns giving a distinct look to every individual one. It comes with four built in speakers and the knobs and controls are located on the side of the piano.

When the lid is on the piano looks like a simple, minimalist table and the ergonomic bench could be a stand alone piece. The keyboard is also bluetooth compatible and you can play music from your phone on the keyboard speakers.
