The Most Popular Front Door Colors Are a Whimsical Mix Of Neutral and Bold
What’s the easiest, inexpensive way to elevate curb appeal? A fresh coat of paint on the front door, of course. Incorporating pops of color can give an entrance that extra zhuzh, and the folks over at U.K.-based estate agent company Whitegates would concur with this decor analysis. The company examined the most Instagrammed front door colors to determine the top hues that homeowners coated their entryways with last year. While bright and bold colors add a punch, Whitegates found that neutrals reigned supreme: Brown wooden doors came out as the most Instagrammed door color.
Whitegates examined “top posts” on Instagram across five hashtags and recorded the amount of likes, as well as recurrent trends. After the images are ranked, the company narrowed in on the top five most recurrent trends. Some of the hashtags analyzed included #frontdoorsofinstagram, #doortraits, and #prettydoorsofbritain. With those factors in mind, variations of brown wooden doors—from dark oak to lighter washed wood—made up over a quarter of the posts.
Dramatic black doors came in as the second most popular color. Elegant and timeless, black is a versatile hue that will never go out of style. If black isn’t quite bold enough, colorful green, blue, and sage doors round out the top five Instagrammed colors. Vibrant pops of bright green and deeper shades of forest green add that whimsical flair, while sage is a much softer variation of green often found in cottages in the countryside or Victorian abodes on the cobblestone streets of English cities.
The final ranking of the most Instagrammed front door colors are as follows: Red (9%), white (7%), grey (5%), pink (2%), yellow (2%), and purple (2%). Trending colors may come and go with the seasons, but it’s clear our collective fascination with colorful front doors will never go out of style.
