This Collection of 1970s Wallpaper is Totally Groovy
Colorful retro pastels are back and groovier than ever. MuralsWallpaper, a modern wallpaper retailer based in England, debuted a new collection of wallpaper inspired by the 1970s. With designs that will invoke the set of “Austin Powers,” “American Hustle,” or some of the retro James Bond films, the new collection consists of six rainbow and geometric designs: Cheer, Boing, Rainbow Track, Sun Rays, Sundown, and Rock Candy—and all six are priced at £37 each, which amounts to about $46 in U.S. currency.
In Cheer, bold retro multicolor stripes take the form of sun rays across the walls and emit feelings of, well, cheer. In Boing, terracotta orange waves emit whimsical squiggly lines across a clean white background. Rainbow Track, like Cheer, utilizes bold red, orange, yellow, and teal squiggly rainbow lines—but this time across a palette of eggshell white. As for Sun Rays and Sundown, pastel and sunset orange block colors take on the form of the sun, respectively. Finally, for Rock Candy, vibrant pinks, reds, and oranges form a retro wave across a muted white backdrop.
Each item from the collection is photographed behind the backdrop of modern furniture and decor, like brown oak cabinets, chairs, and potted plants. So while the collection recalls the pastel-tinted nostalgia of a different, faraway era, Cheer, Boing, Rainbow Track, Sun Rays, Sundown, and Rock Candy still pair well with a contemporary home furnished with mid-century modern decor and pieces.
Kat Jones, designer of the MuralsWallpaper ‘70s collection, explained the inspiration behind the totally groovy wallpapers in a press release. “Our vision for this collection was to give a nod to an era with its own iconic color palette,” Jones said. “With bright exuberant colors and patterns, we’ve kept it modern and livable for 2020 by combining it with geometric shapes.”
