This Fun Tool Lets You Find Your Musical Soulmate
Ever wondered if you have a musical soulmate out there, someone who listens to and loves all the same artists and songs that are so near and dear to your heart? One online app lets you sync up your Spotify account to your loved ones and strangers alike, letting you know instantly if your music preferences line up with those you love or even with total strangers, and it’s seriously fun.
Launched in 2020, musictaste.space was created by an Australian software engineer named Kalana Vithana as a way to gain insight into the musical compatibility of his friends. It’s a free tool for Spotify users, using insights from your library and listening history to let you know which of your pals’ tastes are most closely aligned with yours.
After importing your Spotify data through the app, you’ll see your top artists, tracks, and genres. The app will then generate a unique code and URL, which you can send to anyone you’d like, allowing them to sync their data and get a score on how compatible you are, as well as a breakdown on which artists and songs you have in common. You can even share your code anonymously with strangers if you’re looking to see if your perfect musical match is out there somewhere. A match above 50 percent will generate a unique playlist with tracks that you’ll both enjoy from each other’s tastes.
You can also use the app to generate playlists based on artists and songs you love most, making for an endlessly fun way to bond with your friends and family, share songs you both love and discover new favorites, and maybe even find someone you never knew you had things in common with. So far, more than 2 million users from 101 different countries have tried it, so you never know who you might discover with the same love of music as you.
