When it really comes down to it, I consider my bed the most important part of my home. Sure, having a quality sofa or dresser is important, but personally I can put up with those being subpar. My bed, on the other hand? I just can’t handle it if it’s keeping me from snoozing soundly. I take my sleep seriously!

I’ve spent almost two years testing out different kinds of bedding, from pillows to sheets, but I’ve learned that your sleep quality really does hinge on your mattress more than anything else. If it’s not just right, you’ll likely experience the negative effects during the day, whether you end up with back pain or simply are exhausted from tossing and turning the night before.

If you’re dealing with that right now, you luckily don’t have to worry about forking over a grand (or more) for a quality new mattress. A mattress topper really can turn the feel of your bed around for a fraction of the price — and Nolah’s Best List-winning Microcoil Mattress Topper has done that for me. It’s even on sale right now during Sleep Week, and I got you another discount code to stack on top of it (THERAPY5OFF)!

What Is the Nolah Microcoil Mattress Topper?

There are so many kinds of mattress toppers to choose from that if you aren’t 100% sure what you’re looking for or what brands you like, you might feel like you’re taking a shot in the dark. I’ve tried a few different options over the years, including ones made from latex foam and down alternative, but microcoil has become my favorite since I put Nolah’s topper on my bed about six months ago.

A microcoil topper is similar to a hybrid mattress in that it’s filled with steel coils at the base with foam on top. Nolah’s coils are individually wrapped, and they’re designed to respond to movement and provide supportive resistance. Because they’re open instead of a solid layer, they also allow for increased airflow.

Overall, the topper is 3.75 inches thick: The top later is the GlacioTex cover, which is equipped with cooling technology, and the one beneath that is 1.5-inch comfort foam. Then, you’ve got .75-inch-thick microcoils, which lie on top of 1.5-inch high-density foam. You can go with a plush or luxury firm feel.

Why I Love the Nolah Microcoil Mattress Topper

I didn’t necessarily have any problems with my mattress on its own, but it’s never been quite as plush as I wanted it to be, and I thought that it could use a few inches of height, too. But as much as I wanted a marshmallow-like feel to my bed, I also needed support for my back, which I haven’t ever been able to get with down-filled toppers. Foam or latex might’ve been able to do the trick, but I was drawn to this microcoil option (which I got in the plush feel) because it seemed more sturdy.

No matter which position I sleep in, this topper offers more in the way of support than any other kind I’ve owned before, and somehow it makes my body feel weightless at the same time. That’s not to say that it’s as light as a cloud — this thing was a bit of a struggle to lift and place on my bed. I managed, but it’s pretty dense and heavy if that matters to you. For me, its heft makes me feel even better about its longevity. Not once has it shifted on my bed, and it also hasn’t shown any signs of wear months into using it. However, for cleaning purposes, I do recommend putting a protector above the topper.

The fill also has a bit of springiness to it, although I haven’t ever noticed much motion transfer. It could use a little extra support around the edges, but I don’t sit on the side of my bed enough to mind. (And it’s still comfortable enough when I do.) I don’t lay too close to the edge, either, so I don’t feel any dips while I sleep at night.

All in all, if you want to make your mattress feel like a much more expensive hybrid one that’s soft and supportive, you can’t go wrong with this topper. Your back will thank you — and, because you didn’t have to buy a whole new mattress, so will your wallet! (You have until March 16 to take advantage of the extra discount, FYI!)
