Bertie Ocampo, who leads event marketing for a North American tech company, immediately fell in love with her current apartment when she first toured it in 2021.
After a two-year search, which mainly resulted in smaller one-bedroom or studio apartments for her budget, she landed on “the one” while browsing through listings online.
“The living room was massive, it had two bedrooms (which was perfect because I could turn the other bedroom into an office, as I work from home full-time), and even came with an extra study,” Ocampo writes.
Ocampo was also intrigued by the building’s history; it used to be an office space before it was broken into two-bedroom apartments. The property’s history isn’t only a fun fact, but also a reason for the larger square footage, she notes.
It wasn’t just the ample space that drew her in, but also the seemingly cosmic timing. She’d already planned a week off work to have a staycation at her apartment. After the home’s listing popped up, she toured it on Saturday and signed by the following Wednesday.
“When I went back to work the following Monday, my colleagues were shocked when I said I managed to purchase a property in less than seven days,” Ocampo explains. “It had happened very quickly because of all the prep I was doing over the past two years.”
And Ocampo didn’t just plan to purchase the home — she also thought a lot about how to decorate it. She created a YouTube playlist called “Future Apartment,” curated a Pinterest board with over 700 pins, and pulled inspiration from specific spaces in movies.
“Ultimately, I just want to surround myself with things that I love. It was less about what style I wanted to achieve, but more how I wanted my space to make me feel,” Ocampo says. “I wanted my space to feel cozy, inviting, ‘homey,’ inspiring, and deeply personal.”
