Our House Tour Director’s 2024 “Color Crush” Was Inspired by a Trip to Mexico and Feels Like a Warm Hug
We’re asking some of the most stylish people we know for their 2024 Color Crush: the hue that’s lighting up their mood boards and room redos this year. Learn more about the colors they chose, then find more inspiration with our innovative image search, powered by Sherwin-Williams.
Nothing opens your eyes quite like travel. In new surroundings, we see everything afresh, from architecture and nature to food and fashion. If you’re lucky, a good vacation will leave you feeling energized and inspired. If you’re really lucky, it will show you something that sticks with you once you’ve returned home.
As AT’s House Tours Director, Adrienne Breaux’s whole job is finding inspiration everywhere. A recent trip to Mexico was no exception, where she was inspired by rich and earthy palettes featuring one eye-catching color in particular. Meet Adrienne’s 2024 Color Crush: Reddened Earth SW 6053 by Sherwin-Williams.
Why Adrienne Loves Reddened Earth
“After my trip to Mexico, I was so inspired by the colors I saw everywhere — on architecture, in nature,” Adrienne says. “Reddened Earth immediately spoke to me because it’s a sunbaked, bold color that evokes desert landscapes and natural wood tones. The color itself reminds me of a warm hug!”
Adrienne recommends Reddened Earth for “color drenching” an entire room. “It’s a lush color with a lot of depth, so it will feel dramatic when used on multiple surfaces. But it’s also earthy, giving vibes of tranquility and comfort, so it won’t overwhelm.”
Reddened Earth also works nicely “in smaller pops for accents and accessories,” Adrienne tells us. “Though it certainly looks amazing covering every wall in a room, it’s a strong enough color to be used for an accent wall, or perhaps an arch-shaped mini mural. I have also seen it on smaller objects, like planters, pottery, and more.”
Colors That Work Well with Reddened Earth
Adrienne suggests a complement of strong, earthy colors: warm Curry SW 6671, luscious Copper Pot SW 7709, and sumptuous Aurora Brown SW 2837.
“The beauty of Reddened Earth is that it’s a bit of a chameleon,” Adrienne says. “It can be paired with lighter colors to bring out its softness or spiced up when combined with deep, dramatic shades.”
