Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: My husband Danny and I moved into our home a year and a half ago. It was built in 1914 and was stripped down to its historical wood shiplapping throughout the home. The large windows flood the home with light and the archways that divide each room allow for an airy, open interior. Danny is a chef and I am an artist, and we share the front room that has glass doors as the access to our primary bedroom and a view of a large magnolia tree out our window. Our newborn has the second bedroom, and our cat and dog share the front mudroom where they have their own daybed to enjoy watching squirrels in our mature fig tree.
Aside from being a chef and artist, we are both avid readers, plant keepers, motorcycle enthusiasts, and old truck lovers. We have filled the home with memories of travels, food, a wonderfully filled bar, and a mix of my art, local artists, and vintage art. We find it important to respect the historical charm and history. Our walls are raw, historical shiplapping, capped with crown molding and filled with white trimmed windows.
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Historic PNW craftsman, creative, eclectic
What is your favorite room and why? My favorite room in the house is the main room. It is filled with plants we have somehow kept alive for close to a decade, art, records, and a bar. The large archways from the main room to the dining room and mudroom (pets’ bedroom) allow you to experience the open floor plan and one another’s company in so many different experiences.
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? Our most recent addition to our home would include our Nestig Wave crib. In our 900-square-foot home with a small nursery, we needed a crib that was adaptable. This crib folds out to larger sizes, which will follow our newborn from these early days all the way to toddler age. This saves us room in storing multiple cribs. So far it has been a wonderful bassinet addition to our bedroom and we look forward to moving it to the larger crib size to the nursery when she is a little older.
The second most recent addition to our home is a wonderful handmade quilt by my mother-in-law. It was a gift to our newborn and was made from leftover fabric from a quilt she made for my husband when he was born. It hangs on our sofa so our baby can look at the wonderful hand-stitched shapes. It’s incredible how must love is in such a beautifully handmade item and we are so excited to have it follow her throughout her life.
