Creating a space that produces happiness and a sense of lightness is no easy feat. But photographer and manager of a photo printing store, Benedicte Thomassen, did just that in her four-bedroom home in Scandinavia.

“I was looking for a newly built modern house in late 2019, so I could make my ‘house dream’ come true — a colorful, fun, eclectic house with modern accommodations,” Thomassen writes.

Thomassen; her husband, Daniel; and their four pets had moved homes before, so she already had a collection of bright, happy objects. But, she admits, it wasn’t until she toured this 1,500-square-foot home that she could envision her dream space.

Even though most of the walls were painted gray, Thomassen could see past that and into the future (think: a vibrant, warm, inviting place for friends and family to gather). She started by painting and wallpapering the walls, and the result is stunning.

“I’m happy I stayed true to my own style, and used my favorite pastel colors in every room,” Thomassen shares. “A bright pink or a yellow bedroom isn’t for everyone, but to me it is just right. A positive, happy, bright space was my goal!”
