This TikToker’s “Pastel Maximalist” House Has a Rainbow Staircase, and That’s Just the Beginning
Maximalism is back in a big way, with bold colors, patterns, and prints taking hold over the omnipresent neutrals and grays that have dominated design and decor over the past decade. Of course, you can always dip your toe into maximalist waters, or you can deck your entire home in whimsical rainbow hues, as one TikToker has done.
TikTok user Emily Eileen (aka @fever.dream.boutique) is a self-described “pastel maximalist,” and her Arizona home captures that in spades. Her recent house tour went viral, with Emily addressing criticism in her caption, writing: “I’ll never be able to emphasize enough that I don’t care about my resale value (all of this being completely and easily reversible).” And yes, she included rainbow emojis galore for good measure, proving that there’s really no point in trying to decorate to match a future resident’s taste.
Among the vibrant features in her home are the staircase, which is painted in pastel stripes of green, blue, purple, yellow, orange, and pink from Behr Paints, which she named in a follow-up video. Her walls are also painted in coordinating pastel stripes, and her ceilings feature a blue and white cloud mural.
Emily has hand-painted many of the features in her home, including painting her bathroom varying shades of purple and her ceiling fan blades rainbow-hued. She’s also transformed many thrifted furniture items to fit her candy-colored design scheme, including turning a $10 thrifted table into a pastel pink work of art and a thrifted white desk and shelves into kitschy coordinated rainbow colors.
While her taste might not be for everyone, she certainly makes the case for adding color wherever your heart desires — after all, your home should make you happy, and there’s no shortage of joy to be found within her walls.
