Name: Karla
Location: Menasha, Wisconsin

My husband and I live in a 1400 sq. ft home of our dreams. Often, the running joke from friends is, “have you left your house this weekend?”. The reality is we love our home and it is hard to leave. We were fortunate enough to find an architect who listened to “we-are-on-a-very-tight-budget-can-you-really-make-this-happen?” and he did (thanks Matt!).

So, here we are one artist and artisan living in a home that not only fuels the creative fire, but provides immense comfort and joy. People often say how calming our house is and my theory is: every space is functional, the plethora of windows, which provides us with amazing light, and the treasures that fill the space tell a story.

Almost everything (except for the few splurges on the couches from All Modern and Ethan Allen) are from a thrift store, clearance, or family heirloom. Some of our most prized material possessions include the vintage electric fireplace given by a friend, Daystrom set bought for $65 at a garage sale, teak modern platform bed from Denmark for $150 and prized Lp’s that span every generation.

Our most meaningful collections are photos of my siblings, two working studios, and the water view (yes that large window expanse is southern exposure that overlooks a view of water). We live in a home that fills our heart with joy and we wouldn’t want to be anywhere else, especially on a weekend. ❤️
