The new season of Bridgerton will no doubt spark royalcore interior design trends again (think: ornamental borders, floral fabrics, and lots of gold). And this furniture flip by DIYer Thria (@mybohomecolors) is a perfect fit for that aesthetic.

Thria started with a brown cabinet she got for free from Facebook Marketplace; from there, she turned it into a pink and floral piece that’s fit for a London palace.

“I was actually inspired by some Pinterest ‘princess’ cabinet makeovers,” Thria says. For her royal makeover, she used paint, wallpaper, new legs, and new handles.

Deciding on a color scheme was the most important step.

Thria’s advice for revamping a piece of furniture is to decide on a cohesive color scheme before you begin. She selected pink and used a ballet pink chalky finish paint (CountryChic’s Ooh La La) for the outside of the cabinet and floral peel-and-stick wallpaper for the inside.

Thria says because she used chalky finish paint, there was very little prep work involved for actually painting the piece (no sanding required; just a good clean). She adds that the key steps were also the most challenging: removing the top and drilling holes in the bottom of the cabinet to add new chunky acrylic feet

In addition to the acrylic feet, Thria also added acrylic handles to the cabinet. She says if she could change anything about the project, she might add “something funkier like a tassel or colorful boho handles,” but for now she’s happy with the look.

The cabinet adds color in a renter-friendly way.

Thria rents, so she says adding lots of color to this statement piece of furniture was a renter-friendly way to add color to her whole apartment. “It’s spacious, pretty, keeps all my stuff, and looks super cute in my living room,” she says, and now she’s hoping to tackle more colorful DIYs in her home.

“This is my first-ever furniture makeover — or any makeover, for that matter,” she says. “I had never touched a drill or paint in my life. I had a vision, and I am proud of myself … this is my first baby step toward my dream colorful, boho home.”
