Pinterest Just Announced Two Very Different Decor Trends for 2025 That You’re About to See Everywhere
Pinterest never lets us down: From design ideas to fashion tips, it’s an endlessly encyclopedic source of inspiration. So when the folks behind the scenes see a new trend on the horizon, we get our notebooks (and our pinboards) ready.
We got a sneak peek at Pinterest Predicts 2025, and it includes two statement-making shifts in home decor ahead that we’re especially excited about. Primary Play turns your space into a canvas — literally — with hand-painted furniture, vibrant murals, and maximalist combos of colors and patterns. Want something a little more Elizabethan? Castlecore leans into dramatic historical references like heavy drapes, wooden carved furniture, and goth-glam candelabras — with opulent royal accents like velvet, gold leaf, and marble.
We’re seeing both of these trends already coming to life in our Apartment Therapy House Tours — here are some examples of how you can make them work in your space.
Trend #1: Primary Play
In this cheerful living room, a sherbet color palette adds zing to a freehand mural and complements the bold purple chair and orange wood stove. And the pompom and pop art feel fresh and fun.
Color outside the lines! Primary Play is a trend for all ages, but there’s something extra whimsical about using it in a kid’s room. We love the bubbly border around the closet door and the cartoonish peek-a-boo murals in the corner.
When shopping for Primary Play decor, look for bold uses of color, whimsical shapes, and handmade-style touches like brushstrokes. This planter has all three!
Trend #2: Castlecore
Between the rich black fireplace and the moody medieval candelabras and busts, you can almost hear the palace intrigue. Two sturdy brass planters add a rich, grounding effect.
You don’t need to go full foggy-moors Gothic: Floral tapestry-inspired wallpaper, an ornate ceiling medallion, and a crystal chandelier bring plenty of drama to this dining room. Darker wood furniture stays on theme, while pewter walls keep things from getting too heavy.
Castlecore gets extra glam in the bedroom, where comfort is king. Start with an ornate bed like this jet-black rococo beauty, then pile on luxurious bedding and velvet throw pillows for a stately night’s sleep.
