Over lockdown, the longing to be outdoors in nature was real. And according to a new report from online gallery SINGULART, that need for nature seeped inside and inspired our wall art, as well.

SINGULART analyzed Instagram hashtags over the last 12 months and found that the hashtag #FloralArt spiked in popularity by over 46 percent in comparison to summer 2020. So, even though the world is slowly opening back up again, and we can get back to being outdoors, it appears as though many are never taking going outside for granted again. Floral art is here to stay.

Geometric art and surreal art were both ranked the second and third most-popular art trends on Instagram, each spiking around 30 percent to 34 percent in popularity in comparison to this time last year. The idea of escapism likely has a lot to do with that trend.

SINGULART noted a few up-and-coming artists to watch as these trends continue to grow. Jessica Lyn Kennedy is an artist from Columbus, Ohio who has been riding the #FloralArt hashtag wave this summer. She specializes in botanical paintings in bright colors.

And Austin Blue does bold abstract pieces — big and small — and similar to Kennedy, he works in bright, bold color palettes that will instantly take your breath away.

So, if you’ve been tooling around Instagram in search of wall art inspiration, you should definitely scroll through the #FloralArt hashtag to see all the goodness that has compiled there over the past 12 months.
