Pottery Barn Is Launching a Stylish, Accessible Home Collection
According to the CDC, more than one in four Americans — or 61 million people — have a disability that affects their daily lives. In an effort to make homes more accommodating, Pottery Barn is releasing a new collection called “The Accessible Home,” an assortment of furniture and decor items catering specifically to people with disabilities and those aging in place. But because these items were built with a range of bodies in mind, they can benefit anyone looking to enhance style and comfort within their private surroundings.
The Accessible Home lineup includes products that run the gamut from bath and lighting solutions, to furnishings for the office, dining room, and bedroom.
“Our mission is to incorporate accessibility into everything we do — providing beautiful, thoughtful design that makes a home a more comfortable place for everyone,” Pottery Barn President Marta Benson said in a press release announcing the collection.
To develop the line, Pottery Barn designers consulted with inclusivity experts to tweak some of their bestsellers across categories like bathroom consoles, adjustable beds, desks, tables, and lighting. You’ll find items such as the handsome Irving recliner, adapted to include a powered remote with extra large control buttons and a lifting mechanism to help with sitting and standing. There’s also a wheelchair accessible desk in the lineup, the Pacific, which can be configured with either modular or open shelving, as pictured above.
Other offerings include pivot mirrors and grab bars for more universally-designed bathrooms. With regards to the finishes, materials, and silhouettes of the collection, you can expect the same kind of traditional meets trend-forward aesthetic Pottery Barn is known for.
Those searching for accessible home decor can also shop Pottery Barn’s anti-slip area rugs, melamine dinnerware, and more. Prices for pieces in the collection vary.
