I have trouble falling asleep in complete silence. Sometimes I turn on a Netflix series and set a sleep timer on my TV. Other nights, I run my Snooz. I even have a special playlist of songs that I’ve organized to help me fall asleep by the time a specific track comes on. The WAVE sound machine is a straightforward device that’s quick to set up and easy to use. Once you attach the chrome stand to the unit, just plug it in, and it’s ready to go! A sleep timer built directly into the machine can be set for 15, 30, or 60 minutes with a simple press of the power button. If a shut-off time isn’t set, the sound machine will run continuously through the night.

Catering to a range of environments, the machine has six different sound options — white noise, fan, ocean, rain, stream, and summer night — which are so sharp and clear that I knew right away which ones were right for me and which I’d probably never use. What’s my favorite? The ocean! It offers the calm of white noise and the lull of soft, rolling waves, reminding me of relaxing nights on Venice Beach. I set it for 60 minutes and was out like a light. And if you love camping, might I suggest tuning yours to summer night?

The volume, power, and other settings are directly on the face of the device, so (unlike with other white noise machines) I recommend placing the WAVE within easy reach of your bed. Initially, I put mine too far away, and it was a pain having to reach over to adjust the time or turn it on and off.
