This 1930s Austin Bungalow Is a Magical Rainbow Inside & Out
This 1930s house in Austin may no longer be a home, but I sure want to live here. A former barber shop, and before that (presumably) a regular old house, this building has recently been transformed into the Cute Nail Studio, a business opened with the idea to “create a place that celebrates artistry and provides an all-inclusive safe space for beauty treatments.”
“The studio’s reinvented 1930s bungalow was designed in conjunction with Austin-based interior design firm Unhinged Studio to bring a flood of fun and color to Austin’s East Side and was influenced as much by the owners’ childhoods in Austin as it was by the music videos of Japanese singer Kyary Pomyu Pomyu. It includes custom art pieces both inside and out, featuring local artists RoshiK and Charles Zorro as well as L.A. digital artist Shiroi Room.”
“Once inside, clients will be enveloped by Cute’s custom pink walls and sparkle-infused ceilings. The reception area, which houses Cute’s retail assortment, is furnished with lavender, pink, blue and Lucite furnishings. The color continues in the manicure room with white stations, soft pink chairs, ottomans and cushions, and a custom-built pedicure bench.”
“The powder room features custom wallpaper depicting hand-selected pages from the Sailor Moon manga, white tile with hot pink grout, a disco ball, neon, and a stand-alone sound system.”
