Buying an even remotely affordable home in New York City is not as impossible as it seems—you just have to do some digging. According to Zillow, the median price for a home in New York City is upwards of $670,000, but that doesn’t mean you have to drop more than half a million just to live here. There are some less expensive options in Manhattan, for example, but another great place to look is in Brooklyn.

With neighborhoods just as lively—if not more so—than much of Manhattan, Brooklyn isn’t out of reach. Let’s see what you could buy with a budget of $300,000.
