The temperatures are turning, snow’s falling, sleigh bells are in the air… and my hands, once again, are freezing cold. After moving to Wisconsin, I’ve learned to prep my home for the winters as well as myself, but the one thing I haven’t been able to figure out yet? Keeping my fingers from turning red and painful from the cold.

Sure, you can shove your hands in your pockets, but what about when you actually need to use them to carry something, or use your phone? I hate the bulkiness of mittens, and while Hot Hands hand warmers can come in handy in a pinch, their level of warmth can be inconsistent. Additionally, since they’re disposable, they’re not the most environmentally friendly option.

Lucky for me, I recently came across the concept of rechargeable hand warmers. How these escaped my notice for the last few years, I’ll never know, but I immediately began looking for a pair that both worked well and that I could afford. After a little research, I settled on the OCOOPA Hot Pal Rechargeable Hand Warmers, which are both affordable and have a number of good reviews.

The hand warmers typically clock in at about $55 — however, if you’re willing to forego the black color, you can get them in pale blue or pink for $30 for a pair, which is a pretty good deal. They have three temperature levels ranging from 95°F-131°F, so you can pick whichever is most comfortable for you. Their running time is advertised as 4-8 hours, but according to the reviews, they last an average of about 5 hours, so you might want to plan accordingly. They also heat instantly, unlike chemical hand warmers.

According to one reviewer, “These hand warmers are really nice. Fit nicely in my hand, but still small enough to put in my mittens. [They] actually keep my hands toasty when slipped in my mittens, no more numb white fingertips.”

Another reviewer says, “I ordered a set of these hand warmers based off a recommendation from a friend. They took a few hours to charge initially, but they work perfectly once charged. They lasted through two golf rounds on a single charge and heat instantly once turned on.”

While these haven’t reached me yet since I just ordered them, keep an eye out for an update once I try these out!
