It’s September, and that means fall is officially here. And though your mind probably goes to mustards, oranges, and deep reds when you hear “fall color scheme,” Reese Witherspoon may just change your entire fall decor setup.

“And just like that, we’re ready for fall!” Witherspoon captioned an August 31 Instagram video in which she and her friend, art director Colson Horton, decorated Reese’s store, Draper James, in Nashville.

Witherspoon and Horton fall-ified the outdoor space in front of Draper James’ gorgeous navy blue door — and a cool blue for fall all of the sudden makes so much sense.

Introducing a deep blue to your autumn color scheme adds a layer of depth and coziness. The dark navy allows your lighter yellows, oranges, and reds to pop, creating further warmth in your space. But if you don’t want to commit to painting your front door a Draper James-inspired navy, there are simpler ways to incorporating navy into your fall decor.

Mix a few of these navy velvet pumpkins from Wayfair into a fall table setting to add interest with both color and texture.

Or pair this navy plaid doormat from Hobby Lobby with your jack-o-lanterns and cornstalks. (And take another page from Witherspoon’s book and mix up the colors of your doorstep pumpkins and gourds, too, for a more interesting color palette.)

And inside, you can easily spice up your existing fall decor with a navy throw pillow or blanket, like this one from Target.

And what’s maybe the best thing about working navy into your fall color palette is that navy also fits perfectly in winter and summer decor schemes, too. It may just be the ultimate transitional color.
