This modest Barcelona attic apartment actually started out as the building’s laundry rooms. After renovations, it’s now the bright, warm, nature-inspired home for a young family.
After living in Chile for six years, Clara and her husband decided to come back to Spain. The couple had kids now, and with the help of their friends at Two-bo architecture, they were able to transform this space into a lovely home.
Clara says they actually started the renovation project while still living in Chile. The distance was initially a challenge, but it also meant taking their time deciding on every detail.
Clara loves nature, and that’s reflected in the materials, color palette, and textures incorporated throughout. The fact that their home feels like it’s in the middle of the mountains—rather than the center of busy Barcelona, is proof of the power of design. With two terraces, a ceramic workshop, and a chimney, this apartment charms everyone who wants to feel cozy and at home!
Apartment Therapy Survey:
Our Style: I love nature, the sensation of warmth. The feeling of being in a nest.
Inspiration: Definitely nature. I decorate with sticks and rocks I find in the woods!
Favorite Element: The chimney. I love the idea of it; as a family we do a lot of picnics around it.
Biggest Challenge: Doing the renovations while we were in Chile.
What Friends Say: They love the warmth.
Biggest Embarrassment: Sometimes the place smells. The thing is, this apartment was the old laundry room of the building, so all the bad smells from the [other] apartments were supposed to [originally make their way] to one of our terraces.
Proudest DIY: My ceramics!
Biggest Indulgence: The terrace table. It was custom made, so it was expensive. We wanted something nice to enjoy the terrace.
Best Advice: Decorate with plants!
Dream Sources: La “A” and Son & Calm two shops in Gracia Neighborhood.
