Be honest: When’s the last time you gave much thought to the state of your oven door? Among the many things you likely give little thought to cleaning, it’s easy for ovens and their doors to fall by the wayside, despite the fact that many households use them regularly, if not daily.

Turns out, you can actually remove the oven door to clean it, a technique that’s blowing the collective minds of TikTok users everywhere. The realization went viral when appliance repair tech Jesse Chavez shared a video demonstrating how easy it is to remove oven doors from their hinges, a method that most ovens are actually designed to do.

Chavez showed the simple maneuver for disengaging the locks on an oven, removing it with ease and allowing for a more seamless way to clean both the oven door and inside the oven itself. After receiving tons of feedback from people who were fascinated by his hidden hack, he shared another video detailing the process on three commonly owned oven types, also showing how easy it is to lock your oven doors back in place when you’re finished.

Many older ovens don’t even have the lock functionality, simply sliding up and out when you want to remove them, as Chavez demonstrated. Naturally, people are mystified by this revelation. TikTok user Dustin Hadley (aka @That40YearGuy) dueted Chavez’s video, joking, “You’re telling me for 40 years I’ve been refusing to clean my oven because I didn’t want to lay across the door? It was that easy to just take it off? Ain’t no way.”

Hadley tried it with immediate success, smiling and laughing at the simplicity of it all. “My oven is gonna be sparking 💪🤯🤯” he wrote in his caption, receiving more than 14 million views, 1.6 million likes, and nearly 11,000 comments in a single day on his post, likely from the many people who realize there’s now no more excuses to make about the complexity of cleaning their ovens, too. Grab those gloves, friends.
