This family of five — which includes, a couple, their 8-year-old daughter, and grandparents — hired Kasturi Wagh and Vineet Hingorani, partners and principal architects at kaviar:collaborative, to help modernize their 1,200-square-foot, three-bedroom apartment in Parel, Mumbai.

Kasturi Wagh and Vineet Hingorani, partners and principal architects at kaviar:collaborative, also worked with Ananya Sawant on their team, as well as the contractors Gravity Constructions.

Kasturi says the goal was to create a sort of “slice of summer” vibe inside the “stock builder apartment. “Bright, summer hues, textures of brick, marble, and wood thrive in the apartment and pulsate with vigor to match the personalities of the inhabitants/residents — a family of five spread over three generations.”

The architects worked with some of the existing finishes like the marble flooring and the windows. They also kept all the walls save for a kitchen wall “to accommodate a sliding window that helped open up the space to make the apartment look bigger,” Kasturi recalls.

Beyond just the modern and stylish aesthetic updates, storage was a huge addition to the home. The dining space has hidden storage under the seating and in cabinets on either side. “These cleverly concealed spaces serve a dual purpose — not only providing ample room for storing dining essentials but also enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of the space,” Kasturi says.
