“All rooms needed renovating if we were going to be happy there,” begins Wes Trammel, a home design consultant. He and his partner, Ben Cooper, purchased this 600-square-foot cabin that’s part of a lake community.

“The coziness and easy maintenance that comes from owning a 600-square-foot lake community property,” is what initially appealed to the couple. “From a renovator’s point of view it offered ‘more easily executable’ updates to the intermediate rehab-er.”

“When viewing the property I took note of anything salvageable,” Trammel explains. “In this case the kitchen cabinets, while stock and dated, were in great condition but were poorly configured. Additionally, the 30” refrigerator that was present was awkwardly placed just inside the kitchen door. It was the first thing you saw when you walked in! I repositioned the lower cabinets so that a smaller (but properly scaled) new refrigerator could be placed along the kitchen wall. Keeping the kitchen ‘lean and mean’ along one wall helped to create the illusion that the space is larger.”
