Although Charlotte says, “A full kitchen renovation was never in our budget,” you’ll be astounded by the changed appearance of this “renovation-free” kitchen. With a few clever moves and a lot of paint, it went from super ’70s to marvelously modern. Check out what it looks like now…

Wow! This makeover was done by Charlotte of At Charlotte’s House, and the most dramatic changes were the painting of the cabinets and walls (au revoir, chartreuse!) and the replacing of the green floor tiles with hardwood (although I maintain that anything involving replacing flooring is indeed a renovation). The freshly painted cabinets were capped off with some new appliances, hardware and tile.

I know some of you are going to mourn the painting of real wood cabinets, and, while I share the reluctance to ever cover wood’s natural beauty, I also know the aesthetic challenges of a kitchen with aggressively honey cupboards. But everything now feels bright and clean and playful —a far cry from the mismatched and dated 1970s vibe the kitchen had going for it before.

The teeny marble-esque hex tiles are a definite upgrade on the previous backsplash. The gorgeous rug, especially when paired with the repainted table (found for $70!) really ties the room together and brings out the playful hues of the glassware on display. There’s a coordinating runner in the stove/dishwasher/sink (yes, this kitchen has two sinks!) portion of the kitchen to the left of where the photo above ends. All that color makes the kitchen feel personal and family-friendly.

Congratulations to Charlotte for this lovely (mostly) new kitchen! See At Charlotte’s House for more images.
