Rent or Buy In This Historic Scottish Castle
Do you entertain fantasies of castle living, but aren’t exactly ready for the sort of upkeep that comes with a centuries old stone building steeped in history? Well, we have some good news: this castle in Scotland has been converted into townhomes, and there are two currently on the market—one for rent, and one for sale.
Fetteresso Castle, a 14th century tower house that was rebuilt in the 1600s as a manor house, is located in the Scottish town of Stonehaven, 16 miles south of Aberdeen. The town also is quite the tourist destination for a more famous structure, the ruins of Dunnottar Castle, and has “a delightful harbor area with fine traditional pubs and restaurants,” according to the listing.
As for accommodations, the rental listing, pictured in the gallery above, has four bedrooms, three reception rooms, and two bathrooms, and is listed for £1,600 per month (about $2,160). This townhouse includes one of the castle’s stone turrets, so those who love a round room (raises hand) can live out their storybook fantasies.
If you’re ready to go all in on owning a castle home, the South Range property at Fetteresso is for sale for offers over £475,000 (about $641,000). Recently featured in the New York Times, this townhome has four bedrooms and three bathrooms in what once was the grand ballroom. No turrets here, but there are plenty of high ceilings, large windows and paneled doors befitting a castle. Plus, “there is a real sense of residents’ community spirit within the castle,” according to the listing.
