A Lovely Dutch Home Shows How Chic Simplicity Can Be
Name: Saritha Ashok, husband, and 12-year-old son
Location: Leiden, Netherlands
Size: 1,507 square feet
Years lived in: 1 year, renting
We live in a small town called Leiden in the Netherlands. We are a small family—me, my husband, and our 12-year-old son. They totally support me in my decor adventures and are my biggest cheerleaders. Since ours is a rented space, there are some decorating limitations. But we have been able to work around it. More than half of our furniture are thrift finds. I love giving them a new facelift to blend them into our home. Most of my favorite decor pieces are also flea market finds.
What is your favorite room and why? My favorite room is the living room. That is where we spend most of our time and I keep changing the decor of the living space the most. Sitting here we have a beautiful view of the canal flowing next to the house.
If you could magically change something about your home, what would it be? If I could magically change something in this home, I would love to change our dining table into a solid wooden farmhouse table. I have yet to find a suitable one.
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Neutrals with pops of color
Any advice for creating a home you love? Do not follow trends. Decorate with what makes you happy.
Thanks, Saritha!
