When Lone Fox designer Drew Michael Scott‘s friend Trevor moved into this teeny studio apartment in a French Art Deco style building built in 1934, it was his first time living alone, and at age 24, his furniture was a mix of mismatched hand-me-downs.

“The apartment’s beams, window, and bathroom were all original, but besides those, it was a pretty simple white box. So when it came to the design, I was basically starting from scratch,” Scott writes, explaining that while there wasn’t a “strict specific number” they were trying to stick to when it came to budget, their goal “was to spend as little as possible.”

“I filled it with an eclectic mix of furnishings (the dresser is from the ’70s, the couch is from the ’90s, the chairs are from the ’60s) that ‘shouldn’t’ go together, but when combined with the fun colorful art, it all works together seamlessly. I wanted it to feel young and fresh without feeling childish, and I think the original historic details really helped lend a maturity to the space,” Scott writes.

Scott actually calls this apartment a “case study on how amazing Facebook Marketplace finds can be” thanks to all the great pieces that anchor the small home. Scott thinks the orange lamp and red pendant light from IKEA and the art from Desenio are the only “new” things in the space. Perhaps best of all, despite a few nail holes in the walls, the whole project is renter-friendly.
