A Fresh Coat of Paint and New Light Fixtures Elevate This Rental House

Type of home: House
Size: 2,500 square feet
Years lived in: 12 years, renting
Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: I moved into my home 12 years ago when I had just moved to Los Angeles. I had roommates up until four years ago when my husband and I became the sole residents. When we found out I was pregnant, I took nesting to a new level and made our home baby-ready without sacrificing our style.
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Colorful, Bohemian, Mid-century Modern
What is your favorite room and why? I love all the rooms in our house but my absolute favorite is my office. It is colorful, inspiring, and calm. It gets a ton of natural light and even had a little balcony for me to hang out on and have a glass of wine at the end of a productive day.
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? The last thing we bought for our home were the light fixtures. Because we rent we are limited in remodeling but a fresh coat of paint and some new light fixtures is a quick and easy way to elevate your space! The entry light fixture is from West Elm, the office light fixture is also from West Elm, and the nursery light fixture is from IKEA.
Any advice for creating a home you love? Editing can be the most impactful design choice you make. It is so much easier to choose the things that are the most meaningful to you rather than hold on to a bunch of stuff. In anticipation of our baby we were able to elevate our space and make it function at its highest capacity by editing. If it didn’t serve a purpose we got rid of it. It becomes so much easier to see the beautiful things in your home when they aren’t all competing for your attention.
