Our 1919 one bedroom Craftsman kit cottage is a bit of a cranky old lady (not unlike myself) and I’ve learned to respect her old but lovely bones and definite Craftsman esthetic after years of experimentation.

I promise not to complain about her creaks and earthquake cracks and she allows me to blend in my art and thrift finds with the skulls and hawk feathers my husband finds out with the hounds ( husband was “skully” before skully was cool and shall remain so long after.)

A few modern touches keep her fresh and quirky and I try hard to edit and rotate my Salvation Army treasures…my current favorite the Robert Longo poster.

I wish the ol’ gal was bigger..would love an art studio space, and she wishes I was richer and could update her kitchen and bath but we respect our limitations and love each other anyway.
