Something interior designers always contend with is finding a balance of shapes within a room, because modern homes end up with a lot of rectangles and right angles. TVs, couches, cabinets, beds, tables — they all have a tendency to be rectangular in shape, which can end up feeling one-note.

Enter: A round rug. I’ve seen circular rugs everywhere lately, including in the home of design blogger Erin Wheeler of Sunny Circle Studio (and you can find the exact rug below!), designer Jonathan Adler’s recent collab with Ruggable, the washable rug brand, and as a new addition to longstanding rug brand, Dash & Albert.

Sure, you could get a rectangular rug for your space, but some rooms and areas really benefit from a bit of curvature. Take a dining room, for example: Whether your table is round, square, or rectangular, adding a round rug grounds the space into a distinct area, which is especially helpful in an open floor plan. Round rugs are also a great option for framing a reading nook, adding a cozy accent next to a crib, or creating a unique moment in an entryway. Says Dash & Albert’s founder Annie Selke, “Round rugs also work particularly well with all the lovely, curved sofas we’re seeing these days.”

Read on for seven of our latest favorite round rugs to incorporate in your space.

Rugs.com
$69.00
was $138.00

The aforementioned rug from the home of Erin Wheeler (of Sunny Circle Studio) is a real showstopper. It’s easy to opt for a more neutral rug, but Wheeler took a risk by incorporating a bold black and white pattern, and in this light-filled dining room, it certainly paid off.

was $229.00

This gorgeously-hued rug is part of a much-loved line by the husband and wife interior design team, Chris Loves Julia, and comes in two different round sizes. The muted sage and blush tones — combined with a very classic botanical motif — make this rug feel vintage and well-loved, but it will actually be brand new to your home. Win-win!

Annie Selke
$378.00

Another perfect spot for a round rug? Your patio, porch, or deck that’s home to an al fresco dining setup. It’s no secret that rugs make an outdoor space feel cozy, but the loopy pattern and bright colorways of this rug “are a fun way to add pattern and color to outdoor spaces,” says Selke, even on a cloudy day.

Armadillo
$840.00

For a round rug that’s sure to last from home to home, this braided and stitched rug from Armadillo will never go out of style. It comes in eight colors, from a warm blush to an earthy charcoal, each with lots of texture that adds interest without overwhelming a space.

West Elm
$315.00

No reading nook is complete without a rug, and this fuzzy, fluffy one is ideal for creating the coziest vibe. The fringe trim adds a bohemian element, while the abstract pattern feels mid-century-inspired, so it would be right at home with multiple different design styles.

Home Depot
$108.00

Whenever a friend asks me where to find a great area rug, I often point them towards a somewhat-unexpected source: Home Depot. This rust and blue beauty is a perfect example of their incredible selection of affordable rugs, which rivals that of any other home decor retailer.

Birch Lane

For something more understated and traditional, this tufted cream and brown rug would make a stately addition to any formal dining room. Plus, the looped fibers of the rug feel particularly luxurious underfoot.
